Superconducting magnets with high magnetic
field strength are used in MRI to capture more detailed
and sharper images. Low-temperature superconductors,
which are typically used in superconducting magnets for MRIs,
require the use of expensive liquid helium,
but our MgB₂ superconducting wire can be operated
with cryogenic freezers instead of liquid helium,
reducing the operating costs of MRIs.
